Tutors come from various backgrounds and experiences, we have many different occupations represented in our tutors, from Doctors to stay at home moms, and engineers to pastors. All you need is a compassionate heart, some patience, and an ability to help children from ages six to eighteen with reading or math skills. See our tutoring page for more information.
A few churches have been helping us by sending a quantity of a particular food item for our food distribution (usually about 150 cans). Some needed items for our food program:
Your church may wish to take a month and come and serve by bringing all or part of the food for that month. Cornerstone EPC has enjoyed such an opportunity at Christmas for several years. Community Church in Owasso adopted October in 2009, Currently, every other month is open for such a participation. This is a great way to get your entire Church or Sunday School involved in a missions project.
Some of our friends make a point to come and worship with us once in a while. This benefits us and our friends in a couple ways. First, Christians gathering in the city helps to create a much needed positive spiritual environment. Second, Some of our friends make relationships with people in our community and prayerfully get involved in God's work in an individual's life.
The congregation of Military Ave. Church raises approximately twenty five percent of our annual budget. The ministries of Military Ave. are supported by many friends, churches, and the Midwest Presbytery of the EPC. Without outside support we would be unable to run our youth programs, operate our family center, or pay staff. Because we minister in a community of need our need remains constant. You may send financial support by check made out to "Military Ave. Church" and send them to 1002 Military Ave. Detroit, MI. 48209.
We need staff to help do our ministry more effectively, and we need financial support for those staff members. Jeff Hunt recently finished seminary and we put him on staff in a very part time role and would like to increase his role. Steve Bare Joined our staff last June. He is full time as he keeps opperates our Youth Center and the Solid Rock Cafe. Cedrick Jones is a part time staff member who assists with Basketball outreaches and maintaining our facilities.
